How the rating works

The Fraturday Weather Rating is a playful score computed from the NWS forecast with fixed rules. It's the same answer every time for the same forecast, and it's never a substitute for official forecasts or alerts.

1. Start at 100.
2. Daytime high: 68-82°F no change · 83-87°F −5 · 88-94°F −15 · 95°F+ −30 · 58-67°F −10 · 45-57°F −25 · below 45°F −40.
3. Chance of rain (highest Saturday period): 10% or less no change · 11-30% −10 · 31-50% −25 · 51-70% −40 · above 70% −55.
4. Wind (highest forecast speed): 20-29 mph −10 · 30 mph+ −20.
5. Forecast wording: thunder −15 · snow, sleet, ice or freezing rain −20 · fog −5.
6. Any active NWS alert for the location −10. A Severe or Extreme alert caps the score at 20.
7. Clamp to 0-100. If NWS leaves a value out, that rule is skipped and the rating is marked partial.
